Dallas Fire Hall Status

An email is recieved asking the DCA to lobby City Council and the Fire Department to change the status of the Dallas Fire Hall from a volunteer station to a manned one.

2008-02-14
A letter is received from the Fire Chief.  In it, he states that the current Kamloops Fire Rescue Strategic plan proposes full time staffing for the firehall in 2014 and would still include the existing auxiliary firefighters to augment the emergency response for major incidents.  He goes on to state that these proposed changes still need to follow the established budget process and receive support of City Council.

Mr. McCall goes on to say that there is no legislative criteria to determine whether a firehall is fully staffed, volunteer or paid-on-call.  He states that these decisions are made based on statistics such as call volumes, travel times, risk assessment, population etc. and would be balanced against other needs within the city.
